Why we exist
The problem
Most online tools require you to upload your files to someone else's server. Your tax documents, private photos, confidential recordings — all sitting on a machine you don't control. And for what? A simple merge, crop, or conversion that your own computer is perfectly capable of doing.
How we build
Our approach
Cashew Crate has two types of tools. Our file tools — PDF editors, image compressors, audio trimmers, code differs — run entirely in your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your files never leave your device.
Our productivity tools — counters, trackers, timers, notes — store your data locally by default. If you sign in, you can sync across devices. Even then, we store only the minimum data needed for the tool to work.
Business model
How we sustain this
Each tool offers a free tier with limited daily usage. Power users can upgrade to Pro ($3/month per app) for unlimited access, or get Crate Pass ($15/month) for access to all Cashew Crate apps. Pro users also get an ad-free experience.
We use minimal, non-intrusive advertising on the free tier. We don't sell data. File tools have no data to sell — they run entirely in your browser. Productivity tools store the minimum needed for sync, nothing more.
